Lines drawn between Brighton and Rye (on the one hand) and Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne (on the other) intersect very near Cowbeech.

BY CAR from the north, west and south

at the junction of the A22, A267 and A271, take the A271, eastwards towards Battle and Bexhill.

After a couple of miles, just as the A271 bends to the right, carry on straight ahead up Cowbeech Hill (the road sign includes a direction to "Trout Farm and Fishery"). After 2.4 miles, you will recognise Cowbeech by the Simon Turner, G.F Shaw and Curtis & Shaw businesses, by a village sign and a pub, The Merrie Harriers, all on your left.

BY TRAIN from London

Travel either from Victoria Station to Polegate (on the Eastbourne/Hastings line) or from Charing Cross Station to Battle (Connex South East, on the Hastings line). Both services are half-hourly and take just under 1 hr 20 minutes if running on time.

Cowbeech is about 9 miles from Polegate station and 11 miles from Battle station.

Taxis are available at both stations (about £9-£10). Polegate taxis can be pre-ordered on the phone on Platform 17 at Victoria.

BY CAR from the east

take the A271 from Battle, or the A269 from Bexhill (which joins the A271), to Herstmonceux; take a right at the sign for Cowbeech and another as signposted.

BY EUROSTAR from Paris, Lille and Brussels

travel either from Ashford International Station to Battle (via Tonbridge) or to Polegate (via Hastings); or travel from London Waterloo by tube to London Victoria or London Charing Cross and then take one of the London train services (to Battle or Polegate). BY AIR

fly to London Gatwick (LGW) and take the train to Polegate (on the Eastbourne/Hastings line). Gatwick to Polegate is 44 minues. Otherwise fly to London Heathrow (LHR), proceed to Central London and take one of the London train services.
